Floodlighting illuminates the front of the building and the distinctive tower at night and sophisticated sound system ensures that even those with hearing loss can hear the services. The Rodgers 940 electronic organ and a fine quality Yamaha piano provide the support for congregational singing and also serve as instruments worthy of concert performance. The musical tradition at First Church is maintained by a regular choir and frequent concert performances arranged by the Tay Music Trust and other organisations. The fine acoustics of the building make it a superb place for music and visiting choirs and ensembles often to make it their Invercargill venue.

As part of its outreach to the community the church runs a free health clinic and dental assessment unit for those who live in straitened circumstances. As part of its outreach to the community the Church helped establish The Stobo Health Trust - a free health clinic and a Dental Assessment Unit for those who live in straitened circumstances.

Witness to the community is accomplished through more than 20 elders' districts as well as through women's groups, Sunday schools and boys' and girls' brigades. A lively newsletter is produced monthly and a worship bulletin weekly.

We welcome visitors to our services and guides are available for tours of the buildings.
